We have Postcard Flyers!

So this is a bit delayed on posting this, but since it is still news I wanted to add it to the blog. On Monday I received in the mail a very generous stack of postcard flyers from Rob Kuhns. We'll be adding information about the screener to the back of the cards, and distributing them to the various locations for our target demo/psychographics. Jalen will be picking up the cards and doing this since I have no means of transportation.
In addition, Rob wishes to get to Orlando early to speak to a class to try to reach our "indie filmmaker" demographic. We'll be talking to Bob Jones to see if we can get Rob in for a couple minutes into one of his big lecture classes.
We also would like to reach our social/historical demographic, as this film is very culturally interesting. To do this we are going to see if any sociology classes would be willing to lend Rob a couple minutes of their time. An opportunity for extra credit would be prime, but in our meeting with Charles he warned us about approaching the matter delicately, which will be heeded advice.

Facebook Response

Some people commented on my post on Spooky Empire's page and they were under the impression that this was a new Living Dead movie from Romero so I clarified what the movie was really about.

***and I see I put of instead of out in the Facebook post. I'll get it right next time***

In the meantime...

Still don't have anything from Rob, so our postcard has been modified (thanks Rich for the input) and also, a tearoff poster has been made.

Attack on Spooky Empire

The goal was to "politely" spam Spooky Empire's forums since it's May-Hem horror event is just a month after the festival, however the forums are down at the moment. So in the meantime, I'm attacking the Facebook page!
From FB group: wooo! just talked to rob, really great guy. he WILL be attending the festival, he wants us to get in touch with fff about those postcards but he's going to mail me a bunch just in case. he likes our marketing ideas (thought dressing up as zombies was a great idea) but he wants us to target more indie film makers (he suggested advertising at the college campuses here) and to highlight more on the historical aspect of the film.

Temporary Postcard

Here's the temporary two-sided postcard we'll use for tonight's advanced Evil Dead screening.

Mission: Postcard Acquisition

On Tuesday, we decided it would be a good idea to pass out cards at tonight's showing of Evil Dead (2013). Rob Khun said he sent the festival some so I was tasked with acquiring those the next day. I called Jennifer Guhl about 9am Wednesday morning, but didn't get an answer. I continued to call through the 11:00 hour and still got nothing so I sent her an email. Sorry for not CC-ing Charles.

A little after 12, I called Jennifer once more and she picked up the phone. She said she just saw the email and hadn't had a chance to respond, but she'd get me in touch with Josh Martin who would have that information. She immediately forwarded him my email and he responded within minutes. To my surprise, he said that the festival didn't receive any postcards.

Thankfully, Rob's got some for us in the mail already, but since we don't have any for tonight's event, I'm going to make some to pass out. I don't think Regal or Sony will like it too much, so we'll have to be sneaky about it...

Marketing Plan for Year of the Living Dead Synopsis:

Year of the Living Dead is the definitive documentary on the historical, social, and cinematic importance of George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, featuring interviews with Romero, Gale Anne Hurd, Mark Harris, Larry Fessenden, and Elvis Mitchell.

Postcard Pitch: What do Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood and Night of the Living Dead have in common?

Target Psychographics:
• Horror/Zombie Fans
> Utilize online forums on BloodyDisgusting.com and Fangoria.com and contact their editors
> Visit the Belle Isle Yacht Pub which has a strong zombie fan presence
> Comic shops

• (Film) History Buffs
> Contact the Orange County Regional History Center. We thought this was an interesting route because the documentary discusses in depth many of the social upheavals of the late 60s in their relation to Night of the Living Dead.

• Equality Activists
> Get in touch with the Town of Eatonville, home of the Zora Neale Hurston Festival and the Zora Neale Hurston National Museum of Fine Arts. Year of the Living Dead touches a lot on racial equality so this film could be an education tool for the black community.

• Aspiring Filmmakers
> Year of the Living Dead documents not only Romero’s challenges in the making of the film, but also reminds the viewer that a cheaply made midnight movie can all the impact of a Hollywood blockbuster. We’re still trying to figure out how to reach them outside of the Full Sail/UCF network.
